Mithapukur (Rangpur): Kabir Hasan was murdered at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur after he was caught with eight and a half lakh rupees in the name of giving him a job. His body was exhumed five days after his burial at the National Cemetery in Gazipur and was buried at Kanthali Nayapara village in Durgapur union of Rangpur’s Mithapukur upazila on Tuesday. Earlier, Kabir Hasan’s body was exhumed from the National Cemetery and brought to his village home in Rangpur’s Mithapukur Upazila late Monday night.
According to police and family sources, Kabir Hasan, son of Zakiul Islam of Nayapara village in Kanthali of the upazila, has been protesting for government jobs for a long time. According to previously known sources, Nazmul, son of Fazr Ali of Gaibandha’s Sundarganj upazila, had recently offered Kabir a job as a diver in a ministry. Nazmul Islam took Tk 8.5 lakh from Kabir by giving a fake appointment letter for the post of driver of the ministry. He was called to Gazipur on March 25 to teach driving before joining the job.
After being held there for four days, he was strangled to death inside the safari park on the night of March 29. The next morning, March 30, police recovered an unidentified body with tape on its face and a rope tied around its neck. After the autopsy, the police handed over the body to Anjuman Mofidul Islam. They buried Kabir as a barren corpse. Police then identified him with the help of information technology.
The body was exhumed from the grave and handed over to the family. Police have arrested three people in the incident. However, the main accused Nazmul Islam is still at large. Mithapukur Police Station OC Amiruzzaman said family members brought Kabir Hasan’s body home on Monday night after recovering it. He was buried in the family graveyard after Janaza prayers.
