In the southern Indian state of Kerala, more than 40,000 people have been infected after completing both doses of the coronavirus vaccine. There are many of them who have recovered after being infected once and have become infected with corona a second time after being vaccinated. This information has been given in a report of NDTV quoting the top officials of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the country.
The Kerala government has been directed to send the samples of the victims to the central government of India for genome sequencing amid intense concern over corona infection after completing the dose of the vaccine.
Health ministry officials say there is reason to be concerned if the virus changes enough to evade immunity caused by a vaccine or a previous infection.
However, it is not yet known whether Delta, a highly contagious type of coronavirus, provided any fuel in this case of corona infection after completing the dose of tick in Kerala. This type of super-infectious corona was first identified in India; Later it spread all over the world.
Most of the 40,000 people who have contracted corona after being vaccinated in Kerala are from Pathanamthitta district of the state. In this district, 14,974 people have been infected with corona after taking the first dose of vaccine and 5,042 people have been infected after taking the second dose.
Recurrence is rare but not impossible. There have been several cases of re-infection with the virus in several districts of Kerala, health ministry officials said.
However, they say, the vaccine has played an important role in protecting people from the first infection. Vaccination is also important for those who have already contracted covid.
Officials said the samples would be genome sequencing of all infected people to find out if they had been infected after being vaccinated with a new variant of the corona.
They say the health ministry plans to sequence 100,000 genomes of 40,000 samples to test the potential for new variants. The Union Health Ministry is in touch with the Kerala state government for this, they said. A delegation from the Union Health Ministry is expected to visit Kerala after August 15.
Over the past few weeks, more than 20,000 corona have been identified daily in the southern province of the country. Also on Tuesday, 13,049 people were newly infected with the virus in Kerala and 105 people died. On Wednesday, 21,119 people were infected with corona and 152 died in the state.
