As part of a larger re-brand, Facebook has met its corporate changes so far. The company says it has expanded its reach beyond social media to areas such as virtual reality (VR). As a result, everything can now be better “included” in one place.
However, the names of individual platforms like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are not changing. Only the parent company owned by them will change the name.
Recently, a Facebook employee leaked various secret information about the company after leaving his job. After that, negative news started to be published one after another. In such a situation, Facebook changed its name.
Frances Haugen complained against the company, saying they put the company’s profits ahead of customers’ safety. In 2015, Google changed the name of their parent company to Alphabet. However, this name did not come to the fore. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced the new name. He originally unveiled plans to create an online world called “Metavers” – where people can play games and communicate in a virtual environment, using VR headsets, as well as doing various things.
“Whatever we’re doing and will do in the future, the existing brand probably can’t represent it, so change is needed,” he said.
“I hope that over time we will be seen as a metavers company. And our work and identity will be based on what we are going to build in the future.” He said this in a virtual conference. Mr. “We now see our business as two different parts, one for our apps family and the other for future platforms,” Zuckerberg said.
“As part of that, it’s time for us to adopt a new company brand, so that everything we do reflects who we are and what we want to create.”
The company unveiled a new signboard at their headquarters in Menlo Park, California on Thursday, removing its thumbs-up “Like” logo and putting a blue infinite shaped logo. Mr. Zuckerberg said that over time, users will no longer have to use Facebook to access the company’s other services. The new name reflects that. The word “meta” comes from the Greek word, meaning “out of bounds”.
To an outsider, Metavers may look like a version of VR, but some people believe it could be the future of the Internet. There people will be able to enter the virtual world called Metavers with the help of headsets, instead of working on computers. Where all kinds of digital environments can be connected Hopefully, the virtual world can be used to communicate with friends and family, starting with work, games and concerts. Facebook says it wants to start trading its shares under the new stock ticker MVRS from December 1st.
The reputation of the organization has been repeatedly hurt. The Washington Post recently reported that Facebook withheld important information about vaccine misinformation from policymakers during the epidemic. Reports were circulating based on internal documents leaked to the media by former employee Mrs. Haugen. Among other things, the report claims that Facebook has found in a study that Instagram is harming the mental health of teenagers and that users outside the United States are having to burn a lot of wood to remove hate speech. Mr. Zuckerberg said of the report that the leaked documents were “selectively used in a concerted effort to paint a false picture of the organization.”
