Meeting of Sylhet Chamber leaders and exporters with Biman Customs Authority

Sylhet Representative: A roundtable meeting on export of goods from Sylhet to UK has been held on the recently launched Sylhet-London-Manchester direct flight of Bangladesh Biman. The chamber conference was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Mohammad Ahsanul Haque, Commissioner, Customs Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Sylhet was present as the Chief Guest at the meeting organized by the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Airport Manager of Sylhet Osmani International Airport Mohammad Hafiz Ahmed and District Manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Md. Were present as special guests. Farooq Alam.

Sylhet Chamber President Abu Taher. Speaking as the chief guest at the meeting chaired by Shoaib, the customs commissioner said exports were a vital sector for the country’s economic prosperity. The Bangladesh government has kept all types of export products tax free.

He said the customs authorities supervise the export trade as per the law of the government. In case of any deviation, the responsibility falls on the customs authority. He therefore urged the exporters to comply with all the laws and regulations and export the products produced through safe farming.

He assured the cooperation of C&F agents to get the freight forwarding license as soon as possible. They said direct flights have been launched on the Sylhet-London / Manchester route considering the expatriates and traders in Sylhet.

They thanked the Chamber leaders for hosting the roundtable meeting on aviation exports and assured their full cooperation in this regard. Welcoming remarks were made by Md. Ezekiel Gulzar, President, Jalalabad Vegetable and Frozen Fish Exporters Group and former Director, FBCCI.

Speakers at the meeting requested to keep the cargo handling charge, scanning charge etc. of Sylhet Osmani International Airport in line with Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

They also requested for resolving the existing problems in export of citrus products, mobilization of manpower through recruitment of manpower in the Sylhet office of the Export Promotion Bureau, provision of full list of exportable products to exporters and reduction of air space fares.
