Rangpur Bureau: Bhurungamari in Kurigram has been severely damaged due to Kalbaishakhi storm and hailstorm. The storm and hailstorm that swept through Kalbaishakhi at midnight on Tuesday caused extensive damage to more than a hundred houses, plants and the current boro plantations. Besides, a large-sized kadai tree fell on the adjacent paddy field on the road from Tilai junction to Dhamerhat Bazar during the Kalbaishakhi storm at Gopalpur village in the western part of Tilai Union, causing extensive damage to the crop. The road was closed to traffic from Wednesday morning till noon due to falling trees.
Mozahar Ali, the owner of the crop land in Gopalpur village of Paschim Chhat, said, “The storm uprooted the kadai tree and fell on my crop land, destroying about 1 bigha of crop. From that land I used to get about 27-28 manas of paddy.
In other areas including Shilkhuri, light damage was also reported due to Kalbaishakhi storm and rain at midnight.
In this regard, Tilai UP Chairman Kamruzzaman, while inspecting the affected areas, said that about one-and-a-half hundred houses and a few large trees were uprooted, causing extensive damage to the boro plantations including shops.
The UP chairman further said that he has informed the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Deepak Kumar Dev Sharma and Agriculture Officer Asaduzzaman Mia about the natural calamities.
