Rupganj (Narayanganj) Correspondent: Mumin Mia, 25, a poor meritorious student and easybike driver from Gandharbapur area of Tarabo municipality in Rupganj of Narayanganj district, was abducted but police did not file a case till Friday (July 18) afternoon, four days after the ransom was paid. Momin Mia and her family members are now suffering from extreme insecurity. The terrorists are threatening to kill him. It has been alleged that the police are in a silent role.
It has been learned on the spot that Mumin Mia is the son of a poor woodcutter from Gandharbpur village of Rupganj. He has an indomitable desire to study since childhood. He is currently studying for a Masters in Management at Narayanganj Government Tolaram College. Being extremely poor and in lockdown, Mumin Mia sometimes sells tuition and sometimes vegetables. Never or day laborer. Mumin Mia used to earn money by renting rickshaws or easy bikes and run her education and family. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, July 13, a group of 10/12 terrorists stopped EasyBike on its way home from Bhulta area.
The police abducted him and took him to a secluded place. There, he was taken hostage at gunpoint and Bhulta called the family members on mobile phones claiming to be in charge of the police outpost. The terrorists asked Momin Mia to send Rs 30,000 to her family members for her treatment on the pretext that she had crushed a child. Otherwise, he fears that Mumin Mia may have been killed in a mass beating.
Later, Momin’s elder brother Amin Mia sent Tk 10,000 to Bikash on the mobile number given to them. At one point, Momin Mia was released and protested the terrorist activities. The terrorists attacked and broke Momin’s left arm and right leg. At night, the kidnappers dropped the easybike and Momin Mia near the Ghazi Bridge of Golam Dastagir, the heroic symbol of winter. Mumin Mia was later rescued and admitted to Dhaka Pangu Hospital.
Momin Mia’s elder brother Amin Mia has lodged a complaint with the Rupganj Police Station accusing six people. Police have visited the spot.
BM Mehedi Hasan, SI of Rupganj police station and investigating officer of the allegation, said the initial veracity of the allegation was matched.
Rupganj police inspector Humayun Kabir said the case was under process.
