Nazrul Islam, Joypurhat: Dialysis unit for kidney patients is being started at Joypurhat Modernized District Hospital very soon. With the introduction of dialysis unit, kidney patients will no longer have to go out of the district for dialysis. Hospital caretaker Dr Sardar Mubarak Hossain Jewel said the unity will be functional in the next three months.
On September 19, 2020, the Directorate of Health provided five dialysis machines to Joypurhat Modernized District Hospital. Five patients can be dialyzed simultaneously by five dialysis machines at a time, hospital sources said. Six months after the machine was released, the hospital authority called for a tender to build a dialysis ward on the 5th floor of the hospital. Their work will be completed in the next one month. After that, the installation of dialysis machines will be completed. After completing the training of doctors and concerned, dialysis ward will be functional in full. So, it may take two to three months next.
Civil surgeon Dr Wajed Ali said the introduction of the unit will alleviate the indescribable suffering of kidney patients in the region as well as well as save a lot of money. It is learnt that every year around 40-50 kidney patients apply for financial assistance in the district social services department. But as there is no dialysis system in Joypurhat, they were frustrated and had to collect money with great difficulty and go to Dhaka, Bogura, Rangpur or had to go abroad for dialysis. Introducing the unit in the hospital will reduce people’s suffering and save money.
