Rashedul Islam Rupganj (Narayanganj): Five hired killers took part in the killing mission, but police have not made any arrests in three days.
Journalist Riaz was returning home from Dhaka around 11:30 pm on Monday (June 22). The miscreants attacked Riaz about 200 yards away from his house in Khampara, Kanchan Municipality.
Five people were on a mission to assassinate journalist Riaz Hossain, a representative of Rupganj police station in Narayanganj of Daily Alokit Bangladesh.
Riaz fell to the ground unconscious after hitting him on the head with a sharp weapon with the intention of killing him. Assuming he was dead, the assassins left the scene. When Riaz regained consciousness after a while, he called his younger brother’s mobile phone and his relatives rushed to his rescue and took him to the hospital.
Everyone involved in this planned assassination attempt was a hired terrorist. Riaz recently disliked local influential people for reporting on their terrorist activities.
Riaz’s brother Taizul Islam filed a case against the five unidentified terrorists at the Rupganj police station on Thursday night.
In the charge sheet of the case, Taizul mentioned that on June 21, Riaz Hossain went to Dhaka in a private car with his colleague Joynal Abedin Joy, a journalist of Daily Manabjamin, his friend Masud Chowdhury and Jamal Hossain. Later, on June 22, at around 12:05 pm, Riaz was dropped off by his friends on the street in front of Sanaullah Mannan Sunny’s dis office in Kanchan Bazar near his house. From there, when Riaz left for his home on foot, when he reached Kanchan Khapara area, 4/5 unidentified terrorists, who were already lying in wait, stopped Riaz and started beating him randomly. At that moment, a terrorist struck Riaz in the head with a sharp weapon in an attempt to kill him.
Riaz fell to the ground. When Riaz fainted, the terrorists left the scene thinking Riaz was dead. About 15 minutes later, when Riaz regained consciousness, he called his younger brother’s mobile phone and informed him about the incident. His relatives came and rescued him and took him to Rupganj Upazila Health Complex.
The doctor on duty there referred Riaz to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition was critical. Although his relatives left for Dhaka, Riaz’s condition deteriorated further and he was rushed to USBangla Medical College Hospital in Karnagop. The doctor immediately admitted him to the ICU. Riaz is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of USBangla Medical College Hospital.
Taizul’s idea is that the terrorists have stabbed Riaz in the head with a sharp weapon in order to assassinate him, following a series of reports against local influential people.
Meanwhile, journalist Riaz was transferred from the ICU to the cabin on Thursday evening. At present, he is safe, said his doctor, Professor Kingsuk Abir.
In this regard, Rupganj Police Station OC AFM Sayed said that regular cases have been filed with Rupganj Police Station for attempted murder of journalist Riaz Hossain. Police have been working to arrest the attackers since the incident. Information technology cooperation has already been taken. Hopefully the terrorists who tried to kill will be arrested soon.
