Iron bridge worth crores takaes collapsed after 15 years of construction! 20,000 people in 10 villages are suffering

Barguna Correspondent: After 15 years of construction, the multi-crore iron bridge collapsed on its own and fell into the river. 20,000 people from 10 villages including students of 8 educational institutions are suffering in this. Locals demanded immediate construction of the bridge. The incident took place at Mahishdanga village in Amtali upazila on Thursday evening

It has been reported that the local government engineering department took initiative to build an iron bridge in front of the house of Shamim Ahsan Malakar, a contractor in Mahishdanga village, in 2006 to connect the two unions in the closed Chawra canal between Amtali Sadar and Chawra unions. The local government engineering department has invited tenders for the construction of the bridge at a cost tk 1 crore. A contractor named Bashir Uddin Sikder got the job of the bridge. He did the work as the contractor Shamim Ahsan Malakar had just started.

The construction of the bridge in front of the contractor’s house was not supervised by the local engineering office. Locals allege that the contractor has built the bridge with substandard construction materials. Although the work order was to provide EI post (rail post), the contractor has built the bridge locally by constructing hollow post with iron plate. He also used low quality iron beams in the construction of the bridge. The locals complained that the contractor Shamim did not give as much depth as the post promised.

The locals blocked the construction of the bridge with substandard construction materials. They did not disclose the names of those who were attacked by the contractor. After three years of construction, 2009 will be in the middle of the bridge. The locals informed the then Upazila Engineer Md. Atiyar Rahman about the construction of the bridge but he did not act on it. At that time, the contractor Shamim Ahsan put a pillar in front of the bridge to protect the bridge, so that no large vehicles can climb on the bridge. In the last 15 years, nothing but small vehicles and people have been able to climb the bridge, said locals Alil Khan and Mahadi Hasan. The bridge collapsed on Thursday evening and fell into the Chawra river. The bridge collapsed on its own, causing excitement and curiosity among the people of the area. After receiving the news, the people of Amtali Upazila Engineer’s Office visited the broken bridge on Friday.

At least 20,000 people in Vailabunia, Mahishdanga, East Mahishdanga, Nachnapara, Haldia of Haldia Union, Tujir Bazar and Kaunia, Chalabhanga and Loda villages of Chawra Union of Amtali Sadar Union have suffered due to the collapse of the bridge. Traffic on the bridge is completely closed. Apart from this, students of Kaunia Ibrahim Academy Secondary School, Kaunia Government Primary School, Mahishdanga Government Primary School, East Mahishdanga Government Primary School, Shamim Ahsan Dakhil Madrasa, Nurani Madrasa, Ibrahimia Hafizi Madrasa and Kaunia Jamrir Asherz have passed away. . Locals have demanded the construction of a bridge to connect the people of the two unions.

On Friday, it was found that at least 50 meters of the 100-meter bridge on the bank of Mahishdanga village had collapsed and fallen into the river. The children are running on the broken bridge. Kaunia stands 50 meters on the bank of the village. Locals are flocking to see the bridge.

Ruhul Amin and Sumon Mallick of Mahishdanga village said the bridge collapsed on Thursday evening without any reason and fell into the river. At least 20,000 people in 10 villages, including students of six educational institutions, have been affected by the collapse of the bridge. They demanded speedy construction of the bridge.

Helal Mia of Kaunia village said, “I am suffering from Mora suffering due to bridge collapse. I can’t go to the other side of Manu.

Shafia Begum of Kaunia village said, ‘Brijda vaingya piradhya mogo ahan no more suffering. Hari demanded the construction of a bridge at Mui Hahale.

Mosa Shahnaz Parveen, assistant headmaster of Kaunia Ibrahim Academy Secondary School, said more than 100 students came to the school after crossing the bridge. Students will have a hard time breaking the bridge. He demanded construction of a bridge before the school reopens.

Amtali Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Md. Motahar Uddin Mridha said at least 20,000 people in 10 villages of the two unions, including six educational institutions, have suffered due to the collapse of the bridge connecting Mahishdanga and Kaunia villages of Chawra canal between Amtali and Chawra unions. If the bridge is not built, there will be no end to human suffering. The bridge needs to be built quickly.

Contractor Alhaj Shamim Ahsan denied the use of substandard materials in the construction of the Malakar Bridge, saying the bridge was built according to proper rules. He added that contractor Bashir Uddin Sikder has built the bridge.

Contractor Md. Bashir Uddin Sikder said, I did not do the work of that bridge. Shamim Ahsan did.

Amtali Upazila Local Government Engineer Abdullah Al Mamun said people had been sent to inspect the bridge on Friday after receiving information that it had collapsed. The project will be handed over to the Barguna Executive Engineer’s Office for the construction of the bridge soon.
