Insect attack on maize field lost farmers

Latiful Azam: As the cost of maize cultivation is less, on the other hand the yield and profit are also higher. As it is an economically profitable crop, farmers are also inclined to cultivate this crop. The outbreak of this insect is not going to be controlled in any way.

On the spot, Shahjahan Siraj, a corn farmer from Nagarban village in Chandakhana union of the upazila, and Sushil Chandra, a corn farmer from Rishi Para, said on Tuesday that he was unhappy with the production of fruit armyworm insects and did not get any benefit from applying pesticides in the corn field. I have cultivated maize by spending a lot of money. This insect has cut off almost all the new shoots that are emerging from the corn plant. After eating the top of the tree, the tree is drying up. If the insect infestation continues like this, we will not see any profit.

Rabiul Islam, a farmer of Master Para village of Magura Union said, SAAO is not cooperating to protect me from this insect attack even I do not know him. But he is always found in the shops and land of Shahjahan, an agricultural authorized dealer in Master Para village. I know he is a drug supplier from another company. Later I came to know that he is the Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer. Farmers of Kishoreganj Upazila have expressed fears of major losses if the insect attack is not stopped quickly. Masud Rana, SAAO of Magura Union, said, “I am giving advice to the farmers but some farmers are facing loss with their advice.”

In this regard, Upazila Agriculture Officer Habibur Rahman said, farmers are being advised at the field level.
