A third gender madrasa has been inaugurated at Srimangal in Moulvibazar district. The madrasa has been named “Dawatul Quran Third Sex Madrasa.”
It was set up by the late Ahmed Ferdousbari Chowdhury Foundation on the 2nd floor of Deenkuthi Market on Moulvibazar Road in the suburbs at 5.30 pm on Sunday.
Srimangal Upazila Social Service Officer Soheb Hossain Chowdhury was present as the chief guest at the inaugural function. Special guests were prominent businessman Sajal Ghosh, Upazila Press Club General Secretary Bikul Chakraborty, Cultural Personality Tanvir Bin Rafiq Saju, Shilpakala Academy Instructor Khalek Biswas, Maulana Abdul Aziz Hossaini, Hafiz Maulana Mufti Mahmudul Hasan, Srimangal Hijra Hijra etc.
Khaleq Biswas, central leader of the third gender, said at the inaugural function that there are about 120 third gender people in Srimangal Upazila. About 55 of them are Muslims. They have set up this institution to educate the people of the third gender of the Muslim community in the teachings of Islam. In this madrasa, classes will be held for one hour every day. Mufti Maruf Abdullah and Mufti Abdullah Aur Felal Bahadur have been appointed as teachers of this class. He said initially twenty third gender students were admitted. Gradually they will involve everyone in this educational activity.
