Md. Sharifuzzaman : In order to prevent the erosion of Jhenai river in Basail of Tangail, inspection of newly constructed embankment and dumping of 4000 geo bags at Kamutia Point has been inaugurated.
In the afternoon of July 27 (Tuesday), Basail Upazila Parishad Chairman Kazi Alid Islam and Basail Upazila Executive Officer Manzur Hossain inspected the newly constructed 500-meter embankment at Kamutia Point on the Jhenai River. At the same time, Geo Bagging was also inaugurated at Kamutia Point.
Also present on the occasion were Upazila Project Implementation Officer Shakhawat Hossain, Kashil Union Parishad Chairman Mirza Rajik, former Chairman Khan Bahadur, Paubo’s Sub-Divisional Engineer Golam Farwar and other local dignitaries.
Basail Upazila Chairman Kazi Alid Islam said the Jhenai River has crossed a distance of about 20 km through Basail Upazila. Hundreds of houses and crop lands were washed away by the Jhenai River in different parts of the upazila during last year’s floods. This year we have built a 500 meter long embankment in collaboration with the Water Development Board. Which will protect hundreds of local homes and many croplands from erosion.
Basail Upazila Nirbahi Officer Manzur Hossain said, “We have already constructed embankments at various points of Jhenai river in Basail to prevent erosion. The program of throwing 4000 Geo bags was inaugurated today. The work of unloading the geo-bags on the east side adjacent to the Adajan Bilpara Bridge of the Jhenai River and the eroded part adjacent to the freedom fighter’s house “Bir Nibas” will begin as soon as possible.
Later, they visited the demolished area adjacent to Adajan Bilpara and Muktijoddha’s house Bir Nibas.
