Inaugurated as ‘6th Colonel of the Regiment’

Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed has been inaugurated as the ‘6th Colonel of the Regiment’ of the Bangladesh Infantry Regiment under the Army Infantry Corps.

The captivating and traditional inauguration ceremony was held at the martyred Colonel Anis Parade Ground in Rajshahi Cantonment on Sunday. Through this ceremony, as the ‘Colonel of the Regiment’, the Chief of Army Staff took over as the Guardian of the ‘Regiment of the Millennium’ of the Bangladesh Army in the traditional military manner.

Members of various ranks including senior officers of Army Headquarters, Army Training and Doctrine Command, Local Formation and Bangladesh Infantry Regiment were present on the occasion.

This information was given in the press release of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

On arrival at the Parade Square, the Chief of Army Staff was formally greeted and given a ‘Guard of Honor’ by a smart contingent of the Bangladesh Infantry Regiment. The most senior commander of the Infantry Regiment and the Master Warrant Officer then wore the ‘Colonel Rank Badge’ of the Infantry Regiment to the Chief of Army Staff.

At the inauguration ceremony, the Chief of Army Staff addressed all present. Later, he laid a wreath at the ‘Bir Gaurab’ memorial erected in memory of the heroic martyrs of the Infantry Regiment who sacrificed their lives in the great war of independence.

At the end of the ceremony, the Chief of Army Staff gave a welcome address at the 16th Annual Conference of the Bangladesh Infantry Regiment and exchanged views on the development of the regiment, enhancement of professional skills and activities conducted at home and abroad.

He recalled the glorious tradition of the Infantry Regiment and its contribution to the service of the country and called upon all the members of the regiment to be always ready to meet the challenges of the 21st century through modern and up-to-date training.

Taking over as the ‘Colonel of the Regiment’ of the Army Chief Infantry Regiment has reaffirmed the commitment to create a new impetus among the members of this regiment and to set a unique example of national service in the days to come among each member of the regiment.
