Latiful Azam, Kishoreganj (Nilphamari): The accused was not arrested in 14 days of filing extortion case in Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari. Although the accused are roaming around in public, the police are not even looking at them. The extortionists are constantly threatening the plaintiff. As a result, the plaintiff is in extreme distress.
It is learned that a contractor named Zia Enterprise bought the excavated sand of Lot No. 31 of Charalkata river through auction. While transporting the sand, a group of 10 to 12 people stopped 4 trucks at Kellabari market. They have to pay 3,00000 taka to transport the sand. Otherwise they will not let the sand go. At that time, the extortionists snatched the keys of the sand truck and beat the drivers. The contractor stopped the truck through his manager and called 999 after getting the news of the extortion demand and sought the help of the police.
When the police went to the spot, the extortionists fell on the spot. Later, the extortionists went to sand Point at around 12 pm on July 17 with domestic weapons and threatened to kill the contractor if he did not pay the extortion money. The extortionists also erected barricades on the sand transport road, erecting trees and poles. Contractor Ziaur Rahman Zia became the plaintiff in the incident and filed an extortion case with Kishoreganj Police Station on August 10, naming 9 people as notorious accused and 10 to 12 others as unknown accused. “My life is in danger due to the constant threat of extortionists,” he complained. Although the accused are roaming around in public, the police are not even looking at them.
Asked about this, Kishoreganj Police Station OC Abdul Awal said the case is under investigation. Asked about the plaintiff’s allegations, he said he spoke to the officer investigating the case.
Talking to the investigating officer (SI) of the case, Akkel Ali, he said “We are active.” The accused will be arrested soon.
