Nazrul Islam, Joypurhat: Media workers working in National Journalist Unity Forum Joypurhat district have condemned and protested against the death threat of journalist Abdul Alim.
On Tuesday, Unity Forum President Sohel Ahmed Leo and general secretary Omar Ali Babu issued a joint statement protesting the incident. The statement further said that it was highly reprehensible to harass a professional journalist by threatening to kill him in this manner. The matter is of concern and not desirable to us. Those concerned should take legal action by identifying the culprits through proper investigation of the incident.
According to the general diary of Joypurhat Police Station, journalist Abdul Alim, who identified as Rabiul Rana bully’s ( Mastan’s) brother from 01302212845 at around 8.30 pm on Sunday, September 12 and threatened to kill him and his younger brother.
According to the background reason, the sister and brother-in-law of journalist Abdul Alim built a boundary wall of the house in Lakma village of Panchbibi a few days ago after getting the verdict of the court. The injured are being treated at the modernized district hospital. Police arrested two accused in a case filed at Panchbibi police station accusing seven people in the incident.
The incident was published in various newspapers. The accused got angry without getting bail from the court and threatened to kill the journalist’s family in retaliation. Not only that, the intimidators attacked the drug store of journalist Alim’s younger brother Mostak in Koria Bazar of Panchbibi and tried to kill him.
At that time, the police rescued him and took him home. Joypurhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Jahan confirmed the matter to GD.
Superintendent of Police Mashum Ahmed Bhuiyan said the police are working to take action against the real culprits.
Apart from being a staff reporter of JamunTV, Abdul Alim is also the district correspondent of Bangladesh Betar, Dainik Manabzamin, Dainik Kholakagaz The Financial Express and a lecturer of Jamalganj Degree College, Joypurhat.
