The administration raided Bhunbir and Mirzapur Unions of Moulvibazar’s Srimangal Upazila and seized 1 lakh 62,198 cubic feet of illegally extracted sand and 6 dredgers and other equipment. Other seized equipment, including sand extractors, were later destroyed by fire.
Yesterday was Thursday afternoon From 12 noon to 7 pm in Bhunbir Union and Mirzapur Union under the direction of Deputy Commissioner Mir Nahid Ahsan and in collaboration with the district police, Srimangal Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Nesar Uddin and Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the district administration Arnab Malakar conducted the operation.
Srimangal Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) said. Nazrul Islam said the operation against illegal sand extraction, transportation and stockpiling included 6 shallow machines and other equipment and machinery for sand extraction which were later seized and destroyed. About 1 lakh 62 thousand 198 cubic feet of illegally extracted sand will be sold through open auction and the proceeds will be deposited in the government treasury.
Regular lawsuits are being filed against illegal sand miners using confiscated shallow machines and other sand extraction equipment and equipment as evidence.
