Md. Jasim uddin sikder, Amtali(Barguna): Neighbor Sogag Mridha and his associates have cut down hundreds of banana trees while occupying land in North Taktabunia village of Barguna’s Amtali upazila. The owner of the land and trees, Md. Chu Mridha, has lodged a complaint with the Amtali police station. Police have inspected the incident. The incident happened on Tuesday evening. It has been reported that Bau Chu Mridha of Uttar Taktabunia village of the upazila has been occupying 10 percent of his ancestral property for the last 40 years. He planted a banana tree on the land in 2010. Hundreds of banana trees have grown in that garden. On Tuesday evening, 8-10 people including Sohag Mridha, Taslim Mridha, Santu Mridha and Rintu Mridha claimed the land and cut down all the trees. The owner of the land and trees, Md. Chu Mridha, has lodged a written complaint with the Amtali police station. Police have inspected the incident.
Witnesses Milon Mridha, Limon and Mahbub said that under the leadership of Sohag Mridha, Taslim, Santu and Rintu Mridha trees were cut down.”I have been occupying my father’s ancestral property for 40 years,” said Ba Chu Mridha. I have been cultivating banana in that land for the last 11 years. Under the leadership of Sohag Mridha, 8-10 people including Santu Mridha, Rintu Mridha and Taslim Mridha have cut down all the banana trees in the garden. I want justice for this incident.Sohag admitted to cutting down the banana trees in the Mridha garden, saying, “My grandfather Mohabbat has been forcibly occupying Mridha’s property or Chu Mridha. You have not explained the land. So I cut down the banana tree to take possession of the land.
ASI of Amtali police station Mohammad Asad said, “After inspecting the incident, I saw a banana tree being cut down.” Amtali Police Station OC Mohammad Shah Alam Hawlader said, “I have received a complaint.” Necessary steps will be taken as per the investigation.
