Gaibandha Correspondent: On the occasion of World Environment Day, a human chain was organized on DB Road in the city on Saturday organized by Gaibandha’s civic organization Janudyog. The theme of the day was ‘Restoring the Ecosystem’. The convener of the organization, Professor Zahurul Qayyum, presided over the human chain, Gaibandha District Bar General Secretary Adv. Sirajul Islam Babu, Moinul Islam Raja, District President of Gonoforum, Prabir Chakraborty, Member Secretary of Jana Udyog, Anjali Rani Devi, Human Rights Activist, Sajeda Parveen, Former Councilor, Ashok Saha, Vice President of Sonak, Warez Sarkar, President of Student Union, Khilon Rabidas Pahari, young leader Shikha Rani and others.
The speakers said that the water bodies in different parts of the country including Gaibandha city are being continuously occupied and filled and polluted. Which will endanger our lives and nature. The role of ecosystems in sustaining life on Earth is undeniable. Through this it is possible to tackle climate change. About 60,000 hectares of land in the country is being shifted to non-agricultural sector every year. Therefore, the speakers also demanded that the reservoirs and ponds should be free from pollution and pollution, anti-environmental development activities should be stopped by destroying agricultural lands and people and biodiversity should be protected from climate risks.
