Dulal Mia, Sunamganj: The Haor Bachao Andolan Sunamganj district, including 5 Upazila the Haor Bachao Andolan, has organized a human chain in Sunamganj at the same time calling for making an estimate of the crop protection dam through on-the-spot inspection of the upcoming boro season and paying the fair dues of PIC as per the dam work last year.
Haor Bachao Andolan Sunamganj District Committee has organized a human chain at Alfat Square (Traffic Point) in Sunamganj city 20 September on Monday noon. Among others, Central Committee Vice-President Chittaranjan Talukder, Organizing Secretary (Sunamganj) AK Kudrat Pasha, Sadar Upazila Committee General Secretary Shahid Noor Ahmed, farmer Bablu Mia and others spoke.
At this time, the speakers said, the estimate of the damaged dam should be made on the spot, not sitting at home. Attempts to loot government money by taking unnecessary projects in the name of dams for crop protection should be stopped. Leaders of the Haor Bachao movement urged the concerned people of the Water Development Board to pay their bills immediately in proportion to the work done by those who have done good work on the dam in the last financial year.
The speakers complained that Paubo was trying to delay the PIC practice and return it to the contracting system. They are not paying last year’s money as planned so that no one comes to PIC. Speakers called on the administration to complete the work on the dam on time and maintain the quality of the dam. Will they hold a mobile court on why the PIC money is not being paid? Visiting Haor, it can be seen that many dams built last year are intact.
Closures of some dams have been opened. Some more dams may have to be cut to get the water out of the haor. However, overall, all the dams may not need to be repaired this year, so you should not sit at home and go to the dam and make an estimate. Don’t try to loot government money. We will not let that happen. PIC should be formed before December after completing the estimate. If the work starts at the right time, it is possible to finish the work at the right time.
