High Court summons judge of Bagerhat Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal

The High Court has summoned Noor Alam, a former Chief Judicial Magistrate of Chandpur and now a judge of the Bagerhat Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal. He has been asked to appear on the morning of November 22.

A 16-year-old accused in a murder case at Matlab police station in Chandpur has been summoned for not giving a satisfactory explanation for recording a confessional statement without taking action against the police despite knowing about the torture. A High Court bench comprising Justice Abdul Hakim and Justice Fatema Najeeb passed the order on Tuesday.

Barrister Rimi Nahrin, counsel for the juvenile accused, said that on March 14, another bench of the High Court, despite knowing about the torture of the 16-year-old accused, did not take any action against the police and recorded a confessional statement. Noor wants an explanation from Alam. The judge submitted an explanation to the court order. The judge’s explanation came to the notice of the High Court during the hearing on the extension of bail of the juvenile accused Farhad on Tuesday. His explanation did not seem satisfactory to the court. That is why he has been summoned. Barrister Rimi Nahrin appeared for the juvenile accused in the court. Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi represented the state.

According to the details of the case, Sohail Rana, a student from Chandpur, was killed by his friends and relatives over an expensive mobile phone. He was killed on August 19, 2019. His brother filed a case in this regard, but no one’s name was mentioned. Farhad, Mehdi and Rubel were arrested in the incident. Each of them admits that they killed Sohail for his mobile phone.

The main accused in the case Farhad went to the High Court to seek bail. Farhad was found to be 16 years old during the bail hearing. But the chargesheet gave 19 years which the High Court expressed displeasure with. The judge was shocked as he recorded his statement even after being tortured by the police.
