Former joint secretary general of Hifazat-e-Islam Maulana Mamunul Haque and Hifazat leader Maulana Khaled Saifullah Ayubi have been sent to Comilla Central Jail after appearing in a Comilla court.
Judge Irfanul Haque Chowdhury of Comilla Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court No. 7 Amli passed the order on Sunday afternoon. The court has fixed December 23 as the next date for the case.
According to court sources, on December 15 and 16 last year, some people including Maulana Mamunul Haque spoke as the chief guest on the second day of Waz Mahfil in Joag Paschimpara area of Chandina upazila of Comilla. On December 17, the police filed a case with the Chandina Police Station accusing six people, including Maulana Mamunul Haque and Maulana Khaled Saifullah Ayubi, of making provocative remarks at the gathering. They were produced in the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court in the case around 12:15 pm on Sunday. After the court proceedings, they were sent to Comilla Central Jail.
Advocate Nurul Islam, prosecuting in the case, said Judge Irfanul Haque Chowdhury had fixed December 23 for their next appearance. The case will be heard in their presence on that day.
Shahjahan Ahmed, senior jail superintendent of Comilla Central Jail, said Maulana Mamunul Haque and Maulana Khaled Saifullah Ayubi were brought to Comilla Jail by road from Kashimpur Jail on Friday afternoon to appear in court in a case. They were brought back to the jail after appearing in court under tight security on Sunday. They will remain in this jail till further instructions.
