Dulal Mia, Sunamganj: Habatpur village of Lakshanashree union in Sadar upazila of Sunamganj district is about to disappear due to erosion. This village has been a victim of river erosion for almost 40 years. In the meantime, the lands of 50 families in the village have been demolished. 25 families have become homeless. Authorities have no initiative to prevent river erosion. Several residents of Habatpur village said that 50 families have been affected by river erosion in the last 40 years. Village roads, shops, crop lands have been washed away by the river. 25 families have lost their homes. But the concerned authorities have not taken any initiative to prevent river erosion.
The villagers have appealed to the ministers, MPs and deputy commissioners orally and in writing to take measures to prevent river erosion. But so far no initiative has been taken. Affected Ajmila Begum said, “I had a house, I also had land. Now there is nothing. Now I am living in someone else’s house.” Damaged Chayatun Nesha said, There is no initiative from the concerned authorities. “Shahanara Begum said,” All my houses were snatched away by the Surma river.
“Abdur Rahman said,” Half of the village has been washed away by the river. Many people have been affected. It is urgently necessary to prevent this erosion. ” Fakhrul Islam Talukder, a resident of O village, said, “River erosion has been going on for a long time. Verbal and written requests have been made to ministers, MPs and deputy commissioners to prevent erosion. But the concerned authorities have not taken any initiative to prevent erosion.
” Abdul Wadud said, “Many people have been affected by river erosion in Habatpur area. If measures are not taken to prevent erosion, people will face more losses.” Sunamganj Water Development Board Executive Engineer. “A project for permanent river governance has been submitted. The project proposal is still in process,” said Sabibur Rahman.
