The court has granted remand to 6 DB officials in different cases in the case of arresting the businessman and looting 20 gold bars from him. They were all working in the Feni District Detective Branch (DB).
Judge Abdullah Khan of the Feni Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court passed the order on Wednesday (August 11th).
Feni DB inspector said in the order. Saiful Islam was remanded for four days, Sub-Inspectors Motahar Hossain, Nurul Haque and Mizanur Rahman and Assistant Sub-Inspectors Abhijit Barua and Masud Rana for three days.
Earlier, Feni Superintendent of Police (SP) Khandaker Nurunnabi said they were arrested on Tuesday night. He said 15 of the looted gold bars had been recovered.
Later, the police produced the six officers in court yesterday and requested for a five-day remand. Feni Sadar Model Police Officer in Charge (OC) said. Nizamuddin gave this information. Following the hearing, the court granted remand to six officers.
Meanwhile, the six police officers have been suspended, said Feni SP Khandaker Nurunnabi.
Police sources said gold trader Gopal Kanti Das traded in Hazari Lane in Chittagong city. He was going to Dhaka with 20 gold bars on Sunday afternoon. DB police stopped his vehicle at Fatehpur Railway Overpass area of Feni Sadar on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at 6 pm. He was later arrested and the gold bars were snatched. The businessman filed a case at Feni Sadar Model Police Station yesterday. After that the police started investigating the matter. The six DB officers were arrested at night as the initial truth of the incident was found.
Gopal Kanti Das told reporters that the value of 20 gold bars was Tk 1.24 crore.
