Abu Sayed Sreepur, (Gazipur): A 35-year-old man named Farooq Hossain was killed on the spot when a container-laden Taylor crushed passengers standing on the side of the highway in the Gargariya Masterbari area of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Sreepur, Gazipur. 4 more people were injured in this incident. Two critically injured people have been shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and one to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The incident took place around 10 am on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Jamser Ali of Dumnikura village under Haluaghat upazila of Mymensingh district. He is the tenant of Ibrahim’s house in Madhakhla village of Sreepur municipal area. He is an autorickshaw driver.
The injured were identified as Ramiza Khatun, 45, mother-in-law of Faruk Hossain, Mehedi, 2, her brother-in-law, Billal Hossain, 42, Ismail, 28, and Rehena Akter, 28. According to the relatives of the deceased, Farooq Hossain was going to the village house with his mother-in-law and brother-in-law’s infant son to see his sick father-in-law. He was waiting for the car on the side of the highway with the others. Kamal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mauna Highway Police Station, said a Mymensingh-bound container trailer lost control over waiting passengers and pedestrians standing on the side of the highway and one died on the spot.
At that time, others were crushed under the car. Later, the fire service came and rescued the others and took them to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex for treatment. The container driver Taylor was arrested in the incident but the driver escaped. Nazmul Ahsan, a doctor at the emergency department of the Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, said Farooq Hossain was killed on the spot. Three more people were sent to Dhaka and Mymensingh Medical College Hospital with serious injuries.
