Kalapara (Patuakhali) Correspondent: An unnamed fishing trawler with 15 jails sank in the Bay of Bengal adjacent to Kuakata beach. The trawler sank at a depth of 500 yards near Zero Point on Kuakata Beach at 12:15 pm on Sunday. Fifteen fishermen in the trawler were rescued alive. The rescued fishermen are all healthy. The trawler later floated in the area adjacent to Islampur Dakhil Madrasa on Kuakata beach. The fishing equipment in the trawler was washed away. The submerged trawler belonged to Abbas Biswas of Gangamati area of Dhulasar union of Mahipur police station in Patuakhali district.
Abir Hasan, a tourist eyewitness who came to visit Kuakata, said, “I was also bathing in the sea with my companions. At that time the fishing trawler overturned due to the waves. Immediately, two water bikes on Kuakata beach approached the sunken trawler, rescued the fishermen and lifted them to another fishing trawler.
Ali Hossain, a boatman in the submerged trawler, said they went fishing in the deep sea last Friday. Then, when the sea was rough, they stopped fishing and anchored the trawler at the Haier Char adjacent to the Pigeon Port estuary. When the sea became more rough on Sunday morning, the fishing port could not stay there and left for safe shelter in the Khaprabhanga river at Alipur-Mahipur. Reaching the sea adjacent to Zero Point on Kuakata Beach, the waves sank.
