Anower Hossain Anu, Kalapara (Patuakhali): Two thousand acres of crop land has been submerged due to illegal cultivation of fish in the government canal at Kalapara in Patuakhali. Such a situation has arisen by constructing a dam in the government canal in the interest of cultivating some influential local fish in the Panchjunia government canal of Dhankhali union of the upazila. The aggrieved farmer has lodged a written complaint with the local MP, Upazila Parishad Chairman and Kalapara Upazila Executive Officer seeking redressal. According to local farmers, the canal has been used for water supply and drainage to facilitate cultivation. When the necessary water supply and drainage system is closed, about two thousand acres of land is submerged in water for half of the year. The victim said.

Several farmers said the government canal was built for the benefit of all. We are being deprived of farming because of illegal fish farming in that canal.
