Father and daughter killed as private car plunges into ditch on Sylhet-Tamabil highway

A father and daughter lost their lives when a private car fell into a ditch on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway. Four other passengers including the driver were injured.

The tragic accident happened on Friday (August 5) around 9:30 am in Lakshmipur area of ​​Jaintapur upazila.

The deceased are Rubel Ahmad (35) of Kundarpar village in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi and his daughter Rahi Akhter Adri, one month and 10 days old.

The injured were Rubel’s wife Kajal Akhtar, Kajal’s brother Russell Ahmed, his wife Anika Akhtar and the driver of the private car. The Jaintapur Model Police Station has confirmed the truth of the matter.

According to the locals and the injured, Rubel Ahmad and his relatives came to Jaflong in Sylhet in a private car. Russell Ahmed was driving the car at that time. Around 9:30 am, the driver of the private car coming from Sylhet lost control when it climbed over a bridge in Jaintapur’s Lakshmipur area. Then the car broke the rail of the bridge and fell into the ditch below. Later, with the help of locals, the passengers were rescued and taken to the Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared the baby Rahi dead. While others were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, Rubel Ahmad also died. The bodies of the deceased have been kept in the hospital morgue. Besides, other injured are under treatment in hospital.
