The Election Commission (EC) is taking forward the National Identity Card (NID) service in line with the coronavaxin activities. Following this, the company has taken initiative to give NID to those below 16 years of age.

EC officials said the government has plans to vaccinate all ages against corona. This vaccine is currently being given from the age of 25. Gradually, those aged 18 and under will also be vaccinated.

In this case, the vaccine card is being matched with the NID server. Preparations are being made in advance so that people under the age of 18 do not have to face any problem to get the vaccination card.

According to the sources, the NID division held a meeting on August 9 on the issue. Where it has been decided that NID will be given to those born on or before January 1, 2006 (August 11 this year who is 15 years 7 months 10 days old). In other words, if the commission approves the matter this month, then any citizen above 15 years and 7 months will get NID.

The minutes of the meeting, signed by NID Division Director General AKM Humayun Kabir, said the commission had decided to seek approval to collect information for registration of citizens born on or before January 1, 2006.

It is learned that the proposal of NID sub-division has already been submitted to the commission. If the commission approves, any citizen above 15 years and 7 months will get NID from next month.

Earlier, the Election Commission had taken the information of those born on or before January 1, 2004 in 2019. At that time, information was kept on those who were 16 years of age or older.

Many of them have been automatically added to the voter list as they have completed 18 years of age. The rest will be added to the voter list in a few months.

Those who registered at that time are still receiving their NID. Those born between January 1, 2004 and January 1, 2006 will also get NID even if they are not 18 years old.

Director of NID (Operations) said. Nuruzzaman Talukder said in this regard, if it is decided to vaccinate children under the age of 18 to get the vaccine card so that there is no problem, so the initiative has been taken to undertake this activity.

In response to a question, he said, we are a little ahead. If it is decided to vaccinate younger people further, then how to give them NID will be considered later. For now, 16, 17 year olds should have NID.
