Sylhet Central Jail DIG Perth Gopal Banik, who was sacked in a bribery and money laundering case, has been barred from leaving the country by a court. The judge of the Special Judge’s Court No. 5 in Dhaka passed the order on Wednesday in response to an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Special PP Mosharraf Hossain Kajal confirmed the order.
An application for a travel ban in Perth said the accused, who was out on bail, was facing serious corruption charges. It is suspected that he may go abroad. It is important to instruct the Special Branch of Police (SB) so that he cannot go abroad. After the hearing, the court granted the ACC’s application and directed the SB police to enforce the ban. At the same time the port immigration was asked to provide a copy of the order.
Perth Gopal Banik was granted bail in a virtual hearing on June 18. Perth was released the next morning. The case was filed on July 29, 2019 at the ACC Integrated District Office, Dhaka-1, accusing Perth Gopal Banik.
