Maherabbin Sunvi, Chuadanga: Workers and employees of the traditional Darshan Keru Sugar Mill have submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister. The memorandum seeks immediate solution to the current situation of the current sugar industry and the simultaneous operation of 15 sugar mills in the country during the upcoming 2020-2021 sugarcane threshing season.
Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner Nazrul Islam Sarkar was handed over a memorandum at the office of Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner at 12 noon on Wednesday.
Workers and employees of 15 state-owned sugar mills have been protesting in the streets since November 28 to implement the five-point demand announced by the Bangladesh Sugar Industry Workers-Employees and Sugarcane Federation, including the cancellation of the government’s plan to close sugar mills.
He has announced to stay on the highway till December 15.
If the demands are not implemented then they will take more strict action later.
Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation has recently announced closure of six sugar mills in Kushtia, Pabna, Panchagarh, Rangpur, Shampur and Setabganj before the start of the 2020-2021 sugarcane threshing season.
