Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir has applied for anticipatory bail in a case filed in connection with the death of college student Mosarat Jahan Munia in a flat in the capital’s Gulshan in April this year.
Thursday (September 23) Assistant Attorney General. Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter and said that Sayem Sobhan recently filed an application in the High Court seeking bail in the case through Anvi’s lawyer Hasan Imam.
He added that the High Court bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajal is scheduled to hear the appeal on September 29.
However, when contacted, lawyer Hassan Imam declined to comment immediately.
According to High Court sources, an accused person has to appear in person before the concerned bench during the hearing of the application if he seeks bail from the High Court in advance.
On April 26, police recovered the body of 21-year-old college student Munia from a flat in Gulshan hanging from a ceiling fan.
On September 6, Nusrat Jahan, the elder sister of the deceased, filed a case against Sayem Sobhan Anvir in a Dhaka court on charges of rape and murder.
