Shahidul Islam, Khagrachhari: A vegetable trader has been hacked to death in Dighinala. The deceased was identified as Amar Jiban Chakma, 40. He is the son of late Suraj Chandra Chakma of Hazara Jorabridge area of the upazila. On Friday night, 4/5 unidentified persons were called from their house in Noa Para area No. 2 and hacked to death in Baradam East Khamar Para area. Police recovered the body of the deceased after the incident.
According to police and local sources, Amar Jiban Chakma is a former UPDF (Prasit Group) worker. The UPDF fired him for marrying a woman named Karuna Chakma in Noah Para village No. 2 two years ago.
Meanwhile, last Friday at around 2 am, 4/5 unidentified people in Noa Para village No. 2 asked to open the door of their house. When the door of the house was not opened, they cut the rope of the bamboo fence door from outside and entered the house, tied the hands and face of the deceased and took him to the area near Baradam East Farm. He was later taken there and hacked to death.
Vijay Chandra Chakma, father-in-law of the deceased, said that Amar Jiban Chakma was earlier involved in UPDF (Prasit Group) politics. About two years ago, he left politics and was making a living by running a vegetable business in Baradam Babuchara area. In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dighinala Police Station AKM Pair Ahmed confirmed the incident and said that the body of the deceased has been recovered from the spot.
