Case against 10 people including Khair, leader of Swachhasebak League in Sunamganj

A case has been filed against 10 people, including Dabigar Abul Khair, International Affairs Secretary of the Tahirpur Coal Importers Group of Sunamganj, the leader of the Volunteer League. Tahirpur Thana SI Md yesterday Thursday afternoon. Helal Uddin was the plaintiff and filed the case in the case of donation and attempted attack on the police.

The accused in the case are Abul Khair, son of deceased Golenur of Golakpur village of Uor Sreepur union of the upazila, Nazir, son of Faujdar Ali, Mahmud Ali, son of Moshabbir Mia, Abdullah, son of Harun Mia of Balighat road, Helal Mia, son of Hashim Kali, Alimul Islam, son of Iskandar Ali of neighboring Amritpur village, Shamirul son of Kazim Uddin and his brother Ekramul, Hossain son of Abdur Rahim of Nayaband village, Ali Hossain son of Ahmad Ali of Chhota Ghagtia village of Jamalganj upazila and 7 to 8 other unidentified persons.

Among the accused is Abul Khair, the mastermind behind the attempt to attack the police on the way to the police station after the police intercepted a boat loaded with sand on the Patlai river after looting mineral sand from the leased Shantipur haor. The fugitive accused in the case, Abul Khair, claims to be the Vice President of Sunamganj District Volunteer League and International Affairs Secretary of Tahirpur Coal Importers Group.

The list of accused in the case includes Lalit Setri (mountaineer) and some members of his personal lathial force and the boatman steersman in the name of Tahirpur Coal Importer Group. Abdullah, Alimul, Ali Hossain, Hossain arrested in connection with the incident and handed over to Sunamgaj Chief Judicial Magistrate Court (Tahirpur Zone) on Thursday evening, the learned court judge did not grant them bail and ordered to send them to the district jail.

Incidentally, for the past week, an influential gang looted lakhs of cubic feet of mineral sand from Shantipur Haor, which was leased for new sand, and loaded it on a steel boat in the Patlai river and sold it in different parts of the country and got nearly half a million rupees. When the local people informed the administration and the police station, on Wednesday night, on the instructions of the OC (acting) of the police station, Tekerghat police outpost in-charge brought two constables and with the help of the local people, seized the steel body boat loaded with illegal mineral sand from Patlai river. Then on the way to take the boat to the police station, Abul Khair, in a drunken state, abused the policemen in obscene language and tried to snatch the sand-laden boat and attack the policemen by bringing several sentries (paharadars) of the Coal Importer Group and members of his own lathial force along with a separate boat. Later, Assistant Superintendent of Police Tahirpur Circle (Tahirpur-Jamalganj) Md. Additional police under the leadership of Sahidur Rahman went to the spot and arrested four suspects as they were involved in an attempted attack.

Allegations have been made of mass unrest in Balighat area by regular consumption of drugs, intimidation among the common people, abuse, influence, abuse of power of the government party and using the title of coal importer group. Khayer’s gang snatched several crores of rupees by stealing by sea, seizing Indian smuggled coal and limestone by buying and selling them in bogus auctions. The Khair clique then took an influential clique with it for a week in the name of bogus lease to loot lakhs of cubic feet of mineral sand from Shantipur Haor without value VAT income tax.

Additional DIG (newly promoted) Sunamganj Superintendent of Police on Friday. Mizanur Rahman BPM said, no matter how influential the criminals are or belong to any political party, they will be treated as criminals in the eyes of the law. He also said that several police teams are active in arresting other absconding accused.
