Businessmen demanding justice for UNO injured in UNO baton charge

Shahidul Islam: Local traders staged a human chain on Tuesday (August 31) to protest against the reckless caning of traders by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ashraful Siddique at Kesharganj Bazar in Mymensingh’s Fulbaria Upazila.It is learned that last Monday (August 30) at around 12:30 pm, UNO along with allied Ansar forces went to Kesharganj Bazar and launched a surprise operation on the pretext of occupying the sidewalk. At that time, the motorcycles in front of the shopkeepers, the kettle of the tea stall, the goods of the beautiful shop, the burning gas cylinder of the hotel were kicked and thrown up. At the same time, he recklessly lathicharged the jewelery shop staff and pedestrians on the pretext of keeping a pedestrian’s motorcycle in front of a jewelery shop.

Rased, 30, a tea shop owner in Badihati area, was bloodied and injured due to UNO’s reckless baton charge and torture. Thus, in just 20/25 minutes, at least 10/15 shopkeepers and shop employees were injured. The incident went viral on Facebook immediately. The sudden and reckless torture of the UNO left the helpless and innocent traders bloodied, the traders and the members of the market committee were shocked at the news of the loss of the business establishment. In this incident, traders organized a human chain in Kesharganj market on Tuesday afternoon.

Bir Muktijoddha (Retd.) Abdul Khaleq, president of the market committee at Manabbandhan, said the UNO’s sudden appearance in Bajau last Monday and the attack on innocent shop owners and employees was not like expressing in words. He strongly condemned and protested the attack, vandalism and damage, saying “we traders are innocent.” We cannot accept the way in which innocent traders have been attacked, tortured and harmed. Demanding the trial of UNO Ashraful Siddique within the next 7 days subject to investigation, he further said, “We businessmen will give a memorandum to the deputy commissioner demanding UNO trial.

” If no justice is done after that, the Upazila Parishad will give an ultimatum to surround and close all the shops in Kesharganj Bazar. Meanwhile, a tea shop owner who was tortured by UNO said that the government has provided Ansar forces to provide security to UNO. Ordinary businessmen are being unjustly beaten by those Ansar forces. He demanded justice for all the Ansar members, including the UNO. In this regard, UNO Ashraful Siddique said, the way they are saying is not correct.
