Five passengers, including the driver, were killed in a head-on collision between an easybike and a night coach of Hanif Paribahan at Gobindaganj in Gaibandha. Three more people were injured. Police later arrested the fugitive bus driver Solaiman from Mokamatla after he was killed in a road accident in Gobindganj.
The accident took place in Bakchar area of Gobindganj on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway around 8am on Friday (November 19). The deceased have been identified as autorickshaw driver Tuku Amin (65), passenger Sohag Mia (22), Ashraf Mia (60), Ripon Mia (32) and Sujan Mali (40). Their homes are in Ghoshpara, Shibpur, Bardhankuti and Madhyapara villages of Gobindganj. The injured are Siddique Mia (40), Majedul Islam (30) and Khokon Chandrake (22). They have been admitted to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex.
According to police and locals, a coach of Hanif Paribahan was heading towards Rangpur from Dhaka. When they reached Bakchar area of Gobindaganj in the morning, they collided head-on with Easybike. Four people died on the spot and another died at Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex. Later, one seriously injured person was sent to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for better treatment. Two others, including a pedestrian and a bus passenger, were injured in the incident.
Gobindganj Fire Service Station in-charge Arif Anwar said four bodies were recovered from the spot. The three injured were sent to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex. The on-duty doctor later declared one dead at the hospital.
Gobindganj Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khairul Islam said the bus collided head-on with the easybike while trying to overtake. The body was taken home by relatives. A case has been registered in this regard.
