BSMRSTU Correspondent: The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology Teachers’ Association has condemned and protested the appointment of a former additional secretary as treasurer of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Science and Technology University.
Saturday, the president of the Teachers Association. Md. Kamruzzaman and general secretary. Md. This information was given in a joint statement signed by Abu Saleh.
The statement said, “On May 5, 2021, Mr. Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Additional Secretary, PRL, Department of Secondary and Higher Education, Ministry of Secondary Education, recommended to the Ministry of Planning, Implementation Testing and Evaluation, to appoint a very important post, Treasurer, Has done – which shocked the teachers’ association Bashemurabiprabi and this incident has provoked strong reactions and anger among the general teachers.
The appointment of a former government official to a very important post in the university is contrary to Bangabandhu’s notion of public university autonomy and conflicts with the notion of the university as a whole. We have already seen that when the post of Vice-Chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University became vacant, an official was given routine duties on the instructions of the Ministry of Education. At the same time, the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission have been taking various steps against universities and higher education (proposing uniform policies, setting special pay scales for certain groups, etc.) which has caused extreme frustration in the entire teaching community. ” In such a situation, taking such an initiative is an attempt to make higher education more bureaucratic dependent, which will be an obstacle to the creation of knowledge and the practice of free will in the future.
The statement further said, “While the developed and developing world is taking research and practical steps to keep the university separate, the vested interests within our responsible authorities like UGC and Ministry of Education have been planning to destroy higher education for the last few years.” In this context, the Bashemurabiprabi Teachers’ Association is strongly condemning and protesting the order to appoint a former government official as treasurer. It also called for the immediate withdrawal of the order and the replacement of an academic. ”
In addition, the teachers’ association’s protest letter called for the immediate appointment of senior university teachers in important posts such as vacant registrars and treasurers of various universities, and if the demands are not met, the university federation will call for strict action.
