Staff Reporter: The Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the current Chairman of the Governing Council of the South Asia Cooperative Environment Program (SACEP) in Colombo, Sri Lanka Md. Shahab Uddin said Bangladesh’s role and leadership in environmental and climate protection in the South Asian region will be further strengthened in the coming days. He said under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, SACEP will play an important role in tackling the adverse effects of climate change in South Asia.
The Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md. Shahab Uddin said this in a courtesy call with the newly appointed Director General of SACEP Md. Masumur Rahman at his official residence in Dhaka last evening.
The Environment Minister said SACEP member countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, India, Pakistan, Nepal and Afghanistan) would work together to tackle the effects of climate change in the region through mutual cooperation, technology transfer, awareness raising and exchange of experiences.
The Environment Minister discussed various adverse aspects of climate change in South Asian countries and the role of SACEP in overcoming it. He also congratulated the newly appointed Director General from Bangladesh and assured him of all possible cooperation.
It is to be noted that this is the first time that Bangladesh has got the post of Director General of SACEP for the next three years.
