A two-month-old 11-day-old baby has been killed by a maid in Sylhet. The incident took place on the night of July 22 at Chhotamani Nibas in Bagbari, Sylhet. Police arrested Sultana Ferdousi Siddique, a nanny, for questioning on Thursday (August 12th) night.
It is learned that besides working at home, Sultana Ferdousi Siddique was taking care of Nabil Ahmed, a 2-month-old child of Chhotamani Nibas. On the night of July 22, the child started crying. Enraged, Aya Sultana tried to throw the baby out of bed. At one point, the child ate the house on the steel railing of the bed and fell to the ground. Child Nabil lost consciousness on the spot. Aya Sultana later killed the child by pressing a pillow over her face to confirm her death. During this time he tried to hide the evidence to escape the murder. And he was assisted by some officials and employees of Chhotamani Nibas. Kotwali police have confirmed such sensational information.
Police said CCTV video footage from the room of Chhotamani’s residence found evidence of the child’s murder. The whole incident of Nabil’s murder was also recorded on the CCTV camera there. Aya Sultana Ferdousi was arrested on Friday night on the basis of this record.
Meanwhile, the Sylhet Social Service Office filed an unnatural death case (No. 45/21) with the Kotwali Model Police Station on July 24 to cover up the incident. However, when the police went to Chhotamani’s residence to investigate the case, the information of the murder came out. By watching the CCTV footage of the room, the police came to know that the child had been killed.
In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station SM Abu Farhad said that the incident of murder came to light while investigating the case of unnatural death. During the investigation, CCTV footage of Chhotamani Nibas was collected. Evidence of the child’s murder was found in that footage. After that everyone including SP, DC, social service officer was informed about this. When it was later decided to detain the woman, she was detained for questioning on Friday night. Preparations are underway to file a case in this regard. We have asked the social services office to file a case. If they do not file a case, the police will file a case.
He added that the incident is still under investigation. If the investigation finds evidence of covering up the murder against an officer-employee of Chhotamani Nibas, then legal action will be taken against them.
It may be mentioned that there are currently 42 children in Chhotamani Nibas under Sylhet Social Service Office. Whose age ranges from zero to seven years. At present there are five nurses in the care of 42 children.
