Opposition people attacked, vandalized and looted businesses in Imambari Bazar of Nabiganj Upazila during the day. Two people were injured when they were hit by a Chinese ax. The incident took place from 3pm to 4pm on Tuesday. Upon receiving the news, the police and local people came forward and the attackers fled.
According to the injured sources, Akkas Ali, son of Wahid Miah of the same village was having a dispute with Mahidur Rahman Mahmud of Srimatpur village of the upazila over various issues. As a result of this dispute, 10/15 people including Akkas Ali, Azad Mia, Khalil Mia, Parvez Mia, Nazmul, Safiqun Nur attacked, vandalized and looted Mahmud’s business establishment in Imambari Bazar with local weapons. At one point, when Azizur Rahman (70) came forward to save him, the assailants hacked him and Mahmud with a Chinese ax. The assailants fled with cash and goods when local businessmen and police rushed to the spot. There is panic among the traders in Imambari market due to such incidents during the day. Locals rescued Mahmud and Azizur Rahman and admitted them to Habiganj Sadar Hospital. Meanwhile, Azizur Rahman’s condition was critical and he was sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Nabiganj Police Station OC Mohammad Dalim Ahmed said police went to the spot after receiving the news. Action will be taken against the attackers subject to the allegations.
