Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. has paid deep tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He paid homage to Bangabandhu in a meeting with Bangladesh Consul General in New York Sadia Faizunnesa.
The Bangladesh Consulate in New York said in a statement on Saturday (June 5).
During the meeting, the Consul General highlighted the outstanding contribution of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the greatest Bengali nation of all time, in the establishment of an independent and sovereign Bangladesh and the history of Bangabandhu’s struggling and sacrificial life. The Consul General said that Bangabandhu, a world-renowned leader dedicated to the rights of the exploited, deprived and oppressed people, is now a friend of the world.
During the meeting, Consul General Sadia Faizunnesa handed over to the mayor the books on intelligence reports from 1947 to 1971 on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, the architect of the great independence of Bangladesh edited by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. At this time the Mayor with keen interest knew about the struggling life of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and paid deep homage to the Father of the Nation. He said the books would be carefully preserved in the Atlantic City Hall as a sign of deep respect for Bangabandhu.
Consul General Sadia Faizunnesa visited Atlantic City on June 2-3 to attend the Asian Consulate and Resource Day at the invitation of Marty Small Sr., Mayor of Atlantic City, New Jersey. Consul General Sadia Faizunnesa was given a warm welcome by the Mayor and other officials of City Hall.
During a meeting with the Atlantic City Mayor, the Consul General further said that in this joyous moment of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation in 2021 and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence, the United Nations has made a final recommendation to transition Bangladesh from a least developed country to a developing country. This achievement of Bangladesh has been made possible due to the visionary political leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the worthy daughter of the Father of the Nation. The Consul General highlighted the success story of Bangladesh’s socio-economic development and women’s empowerment under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
During the meeting, the Consul General thanked the Atlantic City Mayor for providing various services and overall support to the Bangladeshi-American community and assured them of their support for working together for the well-being of Bangladeshi-Americans. He invited the mayor to visit Bangladesh.
Atlantic City Convention Center is hosting Asian Consulate and Resource Day for the first time in Atlantic City. Organized with the support of Atlantic City Administration and various community organizations, the event was attended by Consulate Generals of Bangladesh and India and other service providers. More than four hundred Bangladeshi, Bangladeshi-Americans have been provided consular services in the mobile camp of Bangladesh Consulate for two days.
On the occasion, the Mayor presented a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ to Consul General Sadia Faizunnesa for her outstanding contribution to the service of the Bangladeshi-American community.
