Dulal Mia, Sunamganj Correspondent: People of 120 families are living in misery due to lack of clean water as all government tube wells in Guchhgram of Laxmanshree Union in Sadar upazila of Sunamganj district have been damaged. The victims are forced to buy water from a nearby house.
Kala Mia of the village lamented, “We have been having problems with drinking water for the last year and a half. I have informed Sir Madam many times. They have not taken any action. The water in our mosque used to rise before it was wasted. So everyone has to go to the river and perform ablution.” “We have to buy drinking water for 5 rupees a day. Prime Minister, let’s find a good place to stay. If we fix the damaged tubewells, our water shortage will be less.”
Talking to more locals, it is learned that most of the people of this village eat from day to day. Here some people cultivate paddy on other people’s land and some fish from the river. He lived by picking sand from the river again. However, in the last one and a half years, 15 tube wells provided by the government have been damaged one by one. Water is not coming from a tube well as it has not been repaired for a long time and the water layer has gone down.
At present, they are living with the help of Meena Rani Das, a resident of the village, to solve the drinking water crisis. But in that case everyone has to pay 5 taka daily. The reason for taking the money is said to be higher current bill. ”
Imam Nazrul Islam of the mosque in Guchh village said, “We are going through a lot of hardships. River bath lock utensils are all washed. The water of ablution also has to be brought from Ikan Thaki and the river bank slips even if it is not right. Now again in the month of Ramadan, everyone has to line up with water before Iftar. We barely fetch water from a house for 5 taka. Because of this, we are able to survive on water. ‘
Meena Rani Das said, ‘I am also a woman who has got a house in Sarkar Guchhgram. Everyone suffers and for their own need of water we plant peas and give water to everyone. The first 5-6 months I did not take money. But the current bill is more income which I do not pay 5 taka. Where could I get money from poor people? ”
However, Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner. Jahangir Hossain said, “I did not know the matter. Drinking water will be provided to the village soon. If necessary, the tubewells will be repaired again.”
