BSMRSTU Correspondent: Students of the history department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) in Gopalganj have called for another movement to demand the approval of the History Department.
On Tuesday (August 17) at 10.00 am, the students started a human chain program in front of the administrative building of the university. The students then held a press conference at the same place at 11.00 am.
Speaking during the human chain, Fayekuzzaman Tito, teacher of accounting department, Karimul Haque, 3rd year student of History Department , Mukti Mandal, Shant Islam Tuhin, 2nd year student spoke.
The human chain students said, “Today is the sad day of August. We have to go through many ups and downs for 4 long years.” When we are apprehensive during the Corona period, when our educational life is under threat, the biggest fear within us is the unauthorized history department. We have been admitted to the university with the admission test like other students. For four years we have been spending time with various assurances. Although a long time has passed, the university has not yet addressed that history department. It is said that the students are the lifeblood of the university and it is the responsibility of the university to look after the advantages and disadvantages of these students.
“It is our demand and our right to get the approval of the history department immediately,” they said. Today, we would like to announce in front of everyone that the previously suspended movement for the approval of the Department of History is being resumed through this human chain. He said that the movement will continue till the approval of the history department.
Later, he told a press conference that if the history department does not approve it by September 17, the movement will intensify again and the students said that the movement will continue from today. The students urged the administration, teachers and students of the university to stay by their side till the approval of the history department.
At a meeting held at the University Grants Commission (UGC) last year (February 6), the university’s history department said it would only approve three batches of students without approval and instructed not to admit new students from the next academic year. When the news spread on the campus, the students started a movement from that night. Last year, the movement was relaxed from March 14 for the global epidemic and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu. At present 413 students are studying in this department.
