After 11 years in Dharmapasha, the demands of the students were met

Dulal Mia, Sunamganj: At least 16 people were killed when a trawler sank on June 8, 2010 at Shailchapara Haor in Selbarash and Paikurati Unions of Dharmapasha Upazila in Sunamganj district.  Among the dead were 3 students of Badshaganj Government High School, 5 students of Badshaganj Girls High School and 3 women and 5 children of Balijuri village of Paikurati Union.
The home of the slain students is in Balijuri village of Paikurati union.  Boats or trawlers are the only means of communication for students in the rainy season due to underdeveloped communication system.  Since the accident, there has been a demand for a separate trawler or transport for students only.  For a long time that claim was ignored.  This time after 11 years, that demand has been met.
Under the LGSP-3 project initiated by Paikurati Union Parishad, a steel body trawler has been provided for the students at a cost of Tk 3 lakh.
Local MP Moazzem Hossain Ratan inaugurated the trawler on the Manai River in front of Badshaganj Degree College at 11:30 am on Sunday, 22 August .  This facilitated the movement of students from Balijuri, Rajapur, Raipur and Hijla villages.  Among others were present at the time, Upazila Parishad Chairman Mozammel Hossain Rokon, UNO.  Muntasir Hasan, Assistant Commissioner (Land) said.  Reduanul Halim, General Secretary of Upazila Awami League Shamim Ahmed Bilkis, Paikurati UP Chairman Ferdousur Rahman and others.
