Sheikh Momin, Goalanda (Rajbari): After being closed for about 10 hours due to dense fog, ferry service on the Daulatdia-Paturia route has returned to normal. Apart from this, other vessels have started plying. Due to thick fog, the BIWTC authorities stopped the ferry service from 12:00 pm to avoid the accidentAs the ferry service was suspended for 10 hours, it created a long queue of vehicles coming from the river bank on the highway in Daulatdia Ghat area, causing misery to the drivers and passengers. According to BIWTC sources, the ferry traffic became dangerous due to the increase in fog at 11:40 pm on Sunday.
To avoid the accident, the authorities stopped the ferry service at 12:00 noon on Sunday. After that, when the fog density decreased a bit at 10 am, the ferry service resumed. Besides, a large number of vehicles got stuck a few kilometers from Daulatdia Ghat. The stranded ferry and vehicle drivers, workers and passengers also suffered. Hundreds of vehicles including buses, minibuses, private cars, microbuses and trucks are waiting to cross the river from Daulatdia Ghat to Bangladesh Hatchery. Many passengers are reaching the pier on foot. Rickshaw-autorickshaw, Mahendra drivers are also charging extra fare from the passengers due to traffic jam.
Abu Abdullah Rony, manager of BIWTC’s Daulatdia Ghat office, said the ferry service was suspended from 12 midnight on Sunday due to heavy fog. After that, when the fog cleared, the ferry service resumed at 10 am. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the highway due to the 10-hour ferry closure. And there are currently a total of 16 ferries plying this route. However, I hope that the traffic will return to normal soon
