Additional Secretary is Md. Zillur Rahman Chowdhury of Sunamganj

Dulal Mia, Sunamganj: Sunamganj’s son Md. Zillur Rahman Chowdhury has been promoted to the post of Additional Secretary to the Government. Last Tuesday, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification promoting him to the post of Additional Secretary.

Sunamganj Sadar Upazila Gourarang Union Ahmedabad village, the son of an aristocratic family. Md.Zillur Rahman Chowdhury completed SSC from Haji Majid Ullah Public High School, Bishwambharpur, HSC from Sylhet MC College and Honours-Masters in Economics from Dhaka University. He did MS from The Australia National University.

He joined the first Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SHUST) in 1994 as a lecturer in the Department of Economics. He later passed the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination and joined the administration cadre. That year he started his career as Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate in the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner’s Office. He later joined Lalmonirhat as Collectorate Magistrate and later as Aceland of Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari district. Later he joined Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

He then moved to Australia for an MS degree. After returning from there, he served as a first class magistrate in Habiganj, later as Jaintapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Sylhet District and Nawabganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Dhaka District. After serving in the Ministry of Information and Public Works, he served as Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka District. He was later promoted to deputy secretary and joined the health ministry. From there he first served as the Deputy Commissioner of Laxmipur and Chittagong.

During his tenure as the Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong, he was in charge of receiving food items for the Rohingyas by air from different countries. He was praised for his orderly distribution of food items. He was promoted to the post of Joint Secretary while serving as DC in Chittagong. Joined the Ministry of Power, Fuel and Mineral Resources. Later he served in the Ministry of Health, Textiles and Jute.

Prior to his promotion to the post of Additional Secretary, he served as Joint Secretary in the Cabinet Division. His father Dilshad Mia Chowdhury and mother Hajera Chowdhury are prominent educationists of the area. They are also contributing to social service. His worthy wife Parmita Zaman is also working to spread education. His only son Nafizur Rahman Chowdhury Aishwarya is studying at Dhaka University.
