At least 6 people have been killed after a passenger bus plunged into a river in India’s northeastern state of Meghalaya. Among the dead were 5 passengers except the bus driver. 16 injured passengers were rescued and admitted to the hospital. This was reported by Indian media NDTV in a report on Thursday (September 30).
Meghalaya state police said a passenger bus fell into the Ringdi river at Nooncharam in the state around 12pm on Wednesday. Upon receiving the news of the accident, the rescue team went there immediately. The bodies of four passengers were found floating in the river. The bodies of the other two were recovered from inside the bus.
The condition of some of the injured passengers admitted to the hospital is critical, police said. The cause of the accident was not immediately known. However, police initially speculated that the driver may have lost control of the bus in the dark of night. And this is why the bus fell into the river.
