In Sylhet, a minority woman was crushed to death by a Sisik garbage truck. The deceased has been identified as Rani Devi (55), a resident of Focus Residential Area 22, North Baluchar under Shahparan Police Station.
The accident happened on Sunday (October 3) afternoon in the Amberkhana Point area of the city.
Confirming this, Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner BM Ashraf Ullah Taher said Rani Devi was waiting for a CNG autorickshaw at Amberkhana Point in the city on her way home from work at 5.15 pm on Sunday. At that time, a truck carrying garbage from Sisik was entering the airport road from Shahi Eidgah-Tilagarh road at a reckless speed when Rani Devi, who was standing at the point, fell under the wheel and was crushed to death on the spot.
Later, locals arrested Ripon Karke, 40, a truck driver from Sisik. During this time there was a scuffle between the crowd and Ripon. Ripon was slightly injured in the incident.
Upon receiving the news, a team of police from Airport Police Station went to the spot at 5.30 pm and seized the truck and arrested the driver and took him to the police station.
