A fine of Tk 8.5 lakh was levied on the task force’s operation in Jadukata

A mobile court has sentenced two persons to 20 days imprisonment for destroying 08 machine-operated machines in a task force operation and not paying fines.

According to the district administration office on Wednesday, 16 people were arrested while forcibly cutting the river bank and extracting sand and stones in a machine-operated save machine from the external boundary of Jadutaka river in Tahirpur. Raihan Kabir set up a mobile court and collected a fine of Tk 8.5 lakh from 16 persons accused in ten cases. In the other two cases, two persons were fined one lakh rupees each and fined a total of two lakh rupees, three months imprisonment and another twenty days imprisonment for non-payment of the fine.

The task force’s operation was carried out by the Sylhet Environment Department, Thana Police, BGB and Ansar forces to illegally extract sand, stones and cut off river banks. Deputy Commissioner. Jahangir Hossain said such campaigns will continue to protect the environment and river of Jadukata river. He further said that the district administration would be compelled to take more stringent legal action only if the river bank was destroyed by destroying the environment and sandstone was extracted from the river with the help of machine-operated save machine.
