A fine of Tk 12 lakh was levied on the Jadukata river in Sunamganj

Dulal Mia, Sunamganj Correspondent: 40,000 cubic feet of sand seized during a task force operation in Jadukata river in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj district has been sold at a public auction for around Tk 11 lakh. The open auction of the seized sand ended at 9:30 pm on Friday, June 4, by post. Tahirpur Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Md.Rayhan Kabir Led the day-long operation of the task force on Friday.

Local sand trader Sohag Mia bought sand at Tk 19.50 per cubic foot by participating in the open auction. The price of sand including government VAT tax is Tk 10 lakh 9 thousand 125. Besides, 18 boats used for transporting sand were seized in the operation and a fine of Tk 1 lakh 80 thousand was levied on each boat.
Executive Magistrate of Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner’s Office Mohammad Rezaul Karim, Tahirpur Thana Officer-in-Charge Abdul Latif Tarafdar, Deputy Assistant Engineer of Sunamganj Water Development Board Rakibul Hasan and Habildar Mohammad Mahbub of Laudergarh BOP took part in the operation.
