Thakurgaon Correspondent: A cattle smuggler named Rabiul (28) was shot dead by BSF at Jagdal Betna border in Thakurgaon district this morning.
Thakurgaon 50 BGB Commander Lt. Col. Shahidul Islam admitted the fact that a Bangladeshi was killed in a BSF firing at the border and said that a letter had been sent to the BSF protesting the matter. According to locals, Rabiul Islam, 28, son of Abdul Majid of Mashaldangi Chot Colony village in Baliadangi upazila, along with some others, went to the Jagdal border on Monday night to smuggle cows from India.
On their way back, the BSF fired at them near Pillar No. 38 on the Betna border on Tuesday morning. Rabiul, who was injured in the shooting, was rescued by his companions and brought home.
Aminul Islam, chairman of the concerned Palashbari Union Parishad, said his family members died on the way to Rangpur Medical College. Baliadangi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jobayer Hossain confirmed the incident and said, “I have sent people to Rabiul’s house.” Thakurgaon 50 BGB Commander Lt. Col. Shahidul Islam said BGB patrols have been intensified at the spot.
